We Design and Create Outdoor Spaces
“I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey-work of the stars.” Walt Whitman (1819-1892)
Welcome
My name is Souren Ala and I trade as ‘Dynamic Gardens’. The name expresses energy and movement – gardens need not be boring or static. Any garden can be made exciting!
With over twenty-five years’ experience in horticulture, I offer garden and planting design, horticultural consultancy and project management, working mainly for private, but also some commercial, clients. I help you make the best use of your outdoor space, creating gardens that fit your needs and bring delight. I value sustainability, low-maintenance planting with hardy perennials, wildflower meadows, and encouraging wildlife into the garden.
Gardening is an art and a science. And garden art, also called ‘Land Art’, is any kind of sculptural creation made from natural materials: just quirky in character, or fulfilling an ecological function such as a haven for wildlife.
I am also involved in horticultural writing and speaking. I was editor of The Hardy Plant, journal of the Hardy Plant Society, from 2019 to 2025. This publication celebrates all things horticultural; from plant-collecting in far-off lands, to famous or historic gardens, to the latest news of specific plant species and cultivars, and growing tips from real experts. I am a Royal Horticultural Society trials judge, a Garden Ambassador for the Greenfingers Charity, and a volunteer at Overton Community Kitchen Garden.
I am based in north-west Hampshire, and happy to travel.
